MH900442466Before I start planning out my New Year and setting goals, I find in important to reflect back on the year that has passed. Did I achieve what I set out to achieve? Where did my path change? What were the highlights and the lows? Certainly I had lots of highlights and lots of lows. Surely we all did.

It is important to take the time to not just say “Yep, this was good, this was crap.”, but to spend some time really looking at them.

Now I have had some years when I just haven’t got off the mark at all. No matter what I did, nothing worked. It didn’t matter that I had paid out thousands of dollars out to some expert coaches. It didn’t matter that I had followed what they said; I just couldn’t get things moving. I could easily sit back and blame them or just move on and hope that things will be better in the up-coming year; however that doesn’t get to the core. What was wrong? Why couldn’t I just get their expert strategies working for me?

Delving deep within, I needed to understand more about myself. What was really going on?

The first question I needed to clarify was, “Am I on the right path? Is this really what I’m supposed to be doing?” We’re often close on the trial of this, but for some it is just not working. To start with, when you are not on your true path, you are not going to enjoy your work anywhere near as much. For the person on their path, work doesn’t feel like work. They would do what they do even if they won the lottery. It is inbuilt within them. This is what they are here to do. They find so much joy in what they are doing. Others see it and what want they’re having.

Is this you?

When you are not on your path, you are more likely to come across blocks and things are going to drudge along. Something just doesn’t feel right. So, if this is you, it is time to reflect within; what is it that brings you absolute joy that you would do, even if you didn’t have to? You have the answer within.

Delving in deeper there is the question of where am I blocked and why. There is a lot to explore here and seems to be an ever expanding journey. Feeling into your energy centres, or chakras, can give you clues to where to start looking. Sit in silence and move through the body and feel where any tightness or discomfort may be. These are strong pointers to areas you need to clear and energise to get you moving in your life. For example, if you sense tightness between your belly button and you diaphragm, then you may not be in your full power. Where are you letting yourself be over-ridden by others? How can you stand up more for yourself? And then why do you allow this to happen? What stops you from being all you can?

We carry around with us beliefs about ourselves and life that have been installed in us from various places. Many of them are no longer serving us and stop us from moving forward in our lives. A simple example of this is that as small children we are told not to talk to strangers. For some, they carry this with them into adulthood, as the subconscious still believes that you are a small child and you need to be protected. So, as a result, there you are an adult afraid to talk to strangers.

Of course there are many other examples that are can be far more detrimental than this. You may believe you are not good enough, not pretty enough, will never amount to anything, you have to work hard to earn money, you don’t deserve success. The list is endless. These beliefs sit there trying to protect you. Is it time to persuade your subconscious to let go of them? Ensure your subconscious that you are now an adult, show it that you are all grown-up and it is safe for you to be who you were born to be.

When it does come time to set at your goals, take a real close look. Is this what YOU really want? Is it a water-downed version? Or is it what you think you should do or what others think you should do? It’s time to dream, time to connect within and really allow yourself to think about what it is you want, deep within your heart. Unleash your secret passions, write them down and see how they fill. Choose carefully who you share these secret passions with. You don’t need anyone stomping on your dreams before you get a chance to develop and work with it. Let it come out, feel it. Take it into the “What if”. What if I could really do this? How would it look? How would I feel? What would it mean to those around me? Allow the ideas to come to you of how you can make this happen. Brainstorm with a trusted friend. Go on dream, dream big and let it come into being.

Now it’s time to look at what worked for you last year. What went well, how did you excel? How can you make it even better? Make a list of your successes and celebrate them. Make a list of all the things you can do. What are you good at? Where do you excel? You deserve to be patted on the back for them.

Fabulous, now you are clear on your life purpose, what stands in your way, what you really want, what you are good at, it is time to start with some goal setting, that is full of purpose and passion. Put all of this together and you will be on your way to a brighter, more brilliant you. You will have more success and have a lot more fun getting there. So this year as you set aside time to make your goals, allow some extra to  reflect, review and dream.
